Survive and Advance – The Playoffs

The Euroleague Top 16 Round is almost complete and the fight to stay alive has been tighter than ever. There is still one game left in this round but Mike and his team have already secured a spot for themselves in the next round, which is referred to as “The Playoffs.” This round consists of the final 8 teams and each matchup will play a best of five series. They have also secured themselves home court advantage during the playoffs with their win today over Real Madrid.

Top 16

Mike and his team made the Top 16 for the Euroleague. This is the longest stage of the Euroleague Season and the games for this round will last from December 29th through April 8th, 2016, at which point it will be narrowed down to 8 teams.

We are now 7 games into the top 16 Round which marks the half way point. Laboral Kutxa sits at 5-2 and tied for first in their division, Group F. Mike is averaging just under 9pts, 2reb and 2ast in the first seven games.

One of Mike’s best performances came last game vs. Brose Baskets Bamberg where he had 16pts, 6reb, 3ast and 1stl in 21 minutes, including the team’s second highest performance index rating of +20.

Laboral Kutxa will not have an easy road ahead of them, but Mike hopes to continue performing at a high level to help his team make it to the next round of the final 8 teams, designated as the “Playoffs.”

The Mike James Story, continued…

Mike James spent the beginning of his basketball career as the underdog. Coming out of high school Mike was far too often overlooked by Division 1 programs and not many people saw the talent that he himself, knew he had. Like many others around the world, Mike’s goal is to play in the NBA, and he intends on using his fourth season as a professional to get himself one step closer to making that dream a reality.

After an explosive and successful NBA Summer League experience with the Phoenix Suns, Mike entered his second consecutive season with with Laboral Kutxa, a member of the top league in Spain, Liga Endesa. They are also a member of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Mike’s off to a hot start averaging just under 10ppg, 2.5 rpg and 2.2 apg in just 20 minutes per game. Mike is a key contributor and facilitator on the offensive end and finds himself on the floor when it matters the most at the end of games.

In case you missed a few of his high flying dunks and ankle breaking crossovers, take a look at the replays below:

He was one of only two players in Las Vegas to average over 12 PPG 4 RPG and 3.5 APG.

He capped off his Summer League with 32 points 8 rebounds 4 assists 3 steals and a block in the Finals against the Spurs. Game highlights here:
