Michael "Mike" James (born August 18, 1990) is an American professional basketball player. He was a high school basketball standout playing for Grant High School in Portland. He played college basketball at Eastern Arizona College and Lamar University.
Mike James and Panathinaikos (Greece) capped a terrific Euroleague regular season with their fifth straight win to clinch the fourth seed and secure home-court in the Euroleague Playoffs. After sitting out the first eight Euroleaugue games with injury, Mike led Panathinaikos to a 15-7 record down the stretch, posting averages of a team leading 12.9 PPG 2.1 RPG and 3 APG. One of the top scorers in Europe, Mike averaged 23.5 PPG per 40-minutes – good for fourth best in all of Euroleague. His 58% 2-point percentage was highest among all guards averaging over 10 PPG.
Euroleague season highlights include a Player of the Week Award after posting 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in a win against EAZ Milan, 24 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals against league rival Olympiacos, a game-winning buzzer beater over Unics Kazan, a season high 25 points on 9-12 shooting in a win over Fenerbahce and 17 points 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the final game of the season in a road win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Up next is a showdown with Turkish power Fenerbahce Istanbul beginning Tuesday April 18th in Athens. Panathinaikos split the season series 1-1 with each team winning on their home court. After a grueling regular season, Mike is three wins away from reaching back-to-back Final Fours.
Greek basketball powerhouse Panathinaikos improved its backcourt for 2016-17 by adding Mike James to their already talent-rich roster.
After starring for Laboral Kutxa Vitoria in their improbable run to the Euroleague Final Four in 2016, the Greens acted quick in signing James to a one-year deal. After averaging 10 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 29 Euroleague games in 2015-16, he upped his numbers to 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in Laboral’s playoff series sweep over Panathinaikos to advance to its first Final Four since 2008.
“It feels good to come to one of the biggest teams in Europe. Panathinaikos is a team with great history,” James said, “I want to go back to the Euroleague Final Four and I know that Panathinaikos wants the same.”
Laboral Kutxa Vitoria was matched up with Panathinaikos for the Playoffs Round. This series ended quickly as Mike and his team won the first three games to punch their ticket to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four for the first time in 8 years.
Mikes continues to play an integral role for Laboral, which is evident in the stat line during the Playoffs series vs. Panathinaikos. Mike averaged 30min, 14.7pts, 5.7reb, 3.7ast, and 1.3 stl per game. He shot 50% from the floor and 46.7% from three.

This year’s Final Four will be played in Berlin, Germany from May 13th to the 15th. Laboral Kutxa has matched up with Fenerbahce Istanbul for the first semifinal game. CSKA Moscow is confirmed their spot on the other side of the bracket, and they will face the winner of the Lokomotiv / FC Barcelona matchup.
The Euroleague Top 16 Round is almost complete and the fight to stay alive has been tighter than ever. There is still one game left in this round but Mike and his team have already secured a spot for themselves in the next round, which is referred to as “The Playoffs.” This round consists of the final 8 teams and each matchup will play a best of five series. They have also secured themselves home court advantage during the playoffs with their win today over Real Madrid.
Mike has continued to be a key contributor and has found himself on the floor in big moments of every game. He has averaged a very efficient 9.8pts, 2.0reb and 2.6ast per game during the Top 16 Rounds. He is shooting nearly 52% from the floor including 44% from three.

Mike and his team made the Top 16 for the Euroleague. This is the longest stage of the Euroleague Season and the games for this round will last from December 29th through April 8th, 2016, at which point it will be narrowed down to 8 teams.
We are now 7 games into the top 16 Round which marks the half way point. Laboral Kutxa sits at 5-2 and tied for first in their division, Group F. Mike is averaging just under 9pts, 2reb and 2ast in the first seven games.
One of Mike’s best performances came last game vs. Brose Baskets Bamberg where he had 16pts, 6reb, 3ast and 1stl in 21 minutes, including the team’s second highest performance index rating of +20.
Laboral Kutxa will not have an easy road ahead of them, but Mike hopes to continue performing at a high level to help his team make it to the next round of the final 8 teams, designated as the “Playoffs.”

Mike James spent the beginning of his basketball career as the underdog. Coming out of high school Mike was far too often overlooked by Division 1 programs and not many people saw the talent that he himself, knew he had. Like many others around the world, Mike’s goal is to play in the NBA, and he intends on using his fourth season as a professional to get himself one step closer to making that dream a reality.
After an explosive and successful NBA Summer League experience with the Phoenix Suns, Mike entered his second consecutive season with with Laboral Kutxa, a member of the top league in Spain, Liga Endesa. They are also a member of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. Mike’s off to a hot start averaging just under 10ppg, 2.5 rpg and 2.2 apg in just 20 minutes per game. Mike is a key contributor and facilitator on the offensive end and finds himself on the floor when it matters the most at the end of games.

Mike James’ first NBA Summer League appearance, with the Phoenix Suns, was an explosive one. In 7 games, Mike averaged 12.6 PPG 4.3 RPG 3.9 APG and 1.7 SPG. After being inserted into the starting lineup in game 3, his averages over the final 5 games were 14.8 PPG 5.2 RPG 3.8 APG and 2.2 SPG and helped lead the Suns to the Summer League Championship game. Scoring efficiently throughout Summer League, he shot .464% from the field and .381% from 3 while making .842% of his free throws.
He was one of only two players in Las Vegas to average over 12 PPG 4 RPG and 3.5 APG.

All high school age basketball players in the Portland area are encouraged to come as the camp is free of charge.
